National Space Subsystems and Payloads Initiative (NSSPI)
Funded by Enterprise Ireland / Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund (€7.9M)
The National Space Subsystems and Payloads Initiative (NSSPI) aims to advance space technology development through collaboration, expertise, and research, positioning Ireland as a recognised hub of space excellence. The project brings together UCD researchers and six industry partners to advance optical satellite communications, autonomous smart satellite platforms, and next-generation payload design.

Re-Route: Intelligent Multi-Modal Transport
Funded by the European Commission (HORIZON-MSCA-SE-2021), €671,600
RE-ROUTE designs a futuristic mobility platform that integrates AI, edge computing, and distributed decision-making across transport networks. The project aims to enable safer, more accessible, and more sustainable multi-modal transport systems. Coordinated by UCD, the consortium includes partners from Europe, the UK, and the US.

Data-driven xApps Conflict Management in Open-RAN
Supported by SFI CONNECT / OpenIreland Testbed
This project develops AI-driven and game-theoretic methods to detect and mitigate conflicts between xApps in Open-RAN systems. As Open-RAN enables multi-vendor interoperability, multiple xApps may independently modify RAN parameters and unintentionally degrade performance. Our work builds proactive conflict detection models, incentive-aligned resolution strategies, and experimental validation on the OpenIreland O-RAN testbed.
