Nima Afraz

NIA Principal Investigator

Dr. Nima Afraz is a Tenured Assistant Professor in the School of Computer Science at University College Dublin (UCD), where he teaches and supervises within the Software Engineering program and leads cutting-edge research in network systems. He is a funded investigator at the SFI CONNECT Centre and Principal Investigator on the National Space Subsystems and Payloads Initiative (NSSPI), a flagship €7.9 million project funded by Enterprise Ireland under the Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund. His research focuses on Open Radio Access Networks (Open RAN), blockchain applications in telecommunications, network automation, network economics, and infrastructure virtualisation. Anupa De Silva

Postdoctoral Fellow

Anupa De Silva is a Postdoctoral Researcher at University College Dublin, contributing to the National Space Subsystems & Payloads Initiative. His current research focuses on the integration of blockchain technologies into satellite communication systems, aiming to enhance the security, scalability, and fairness of space-based networks. He recently earned a Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of Galway, Ireland, where his doctoral research explored Payment Channel Networks as foundational infrastructure for next-generation digital monetary systems. Rashmi Sharan Sinha

Postdoctoral Fellow

Dr. Rashmi Sharan Sinha is a wireless communications researcher specializing in 5G/6G networks, non-terrestrial networks (NTNs), and AI-driven physical/MAC layer optimization. She recently served as a Research Scientist at Temasek Laboratories, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, where she led R&D within the Localization and Enhanced Urban Systems (LeXUS) project—funded by the Defence Science Organisation (DSO) National Laboratories—and the Positioning You with eXtreme Indoor/Outdoor Sensing (PyXIS) project with ST Engineering Advanced Networks & Sensors. Abdul Wadud

PhD Researcher

Abdul Wadud is a Ph.D. Researcher at the UCD School of Computer Science, Ireland, and a Research Associate at the Bangladesh Institute of Governance and Management (BIGM), Dhaka. He received an MSc degree in Computer Science from South Asian University (SAU), India, in July 2020. He was awarded the prestigious President Scholarship and the SAU Special Scholarship at SAU. He has published research articles in top-tier journals and conferences like IEEE INFOCOM, IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management, IEEE Transactions on Green Communications and Networking, and IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications. His research interests include open RAN, wireless mobile networks, optical networks, optimization, and AI/ML for communication. He is a graduate student member of IEEE.

Ali Deylamy

PhD Researcher

Ali Deylamy is a Ph.D candidate at University College Dublin. He holds a Master’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Milan, where he conducted research in the IoT Laboratory, focusing on the use of artificial intelligence in 5G and 6G wireless networks. In addition to his academic background, Ali has professional experience as a network engineer at FASTWEB and Vodafone, where he worked on the deployment and optimization of large-scale communication infrastructures. Behnaz Behara

PhD Student

Behnaz Behara is a Ph.D. candidate in Biomedical Engineering at K. N. Toosi University of Technology, specializing in decentralized digital health systems. Her current research focuses on designing a blockchain-based remote management platform for patients with movement disorders, integrating AI-powered clinical decision-making, wearable IoMT devices, and secure data governance through Hyperledger Fabric. She earned her M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering from Hakim Sabzevari University in 2020, where she developed a data-driven cancer treatment model using Model-Free Adaptive Control (MFAC). Olivier Atangana is a PhD Student specializing in Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) at GREYC Lab, ENSICAEN Engineering School & University of Caen Normandy in Caen, France. He also serves as a Cryptocurrency Researcher at Fime since September 2022. Computer Science Student – Research Intern

Bichoy Daoud is a 4th-year engineering student at Polytech Marseille (Aix-Marseille University), majoring in Computer Science. Currently, he is completing a research internship at University College Dublin (UCD) within the NSSPI programme, contributing to the simulation and analysis of satellite-to-ground communication networks using NS-3. His work focuses on developing tools to extract and analyze communication metrics from network simulations, helping to evaluate and optimize data transmission strategies in satellite systems.
